Black-Founded Academic Achievement Programs

  • McNair Scholars Program
    The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program was established in the name of the late NASA mission specialist, who perished in the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. The program’s goal is to encourage and prepare students who are traditionally underrepresented in college to pursue graduate studies – specifically, a Ph.D. The program provides a variety of academic support and services.

  • LSAMP
    The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) at California State University Dominguez Hills is part of a statewide and national effort to broaden the participation in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) disciplines, and is a joint project between the National Science Foundation and the California State University system. The goal of the LSAMP is to increase the number of individuals who have faced or face social, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM.

  • MSA
    The Male Success Alliance (MSA) mission is to improve access, retention and graduation rates of young men of color at CSUDH. MSA offers academic support, personal and professional development and mentoring. Through creating a culture of brotherhood, integrity and perseverance MSA positively impacts the lives of the young men. Although MSA is focused on increasing success of Young Men of Color, we welcome and support all students. MSA is open to anyone regardless of race, color, and national origin, and also sex.

Black Departments, Programs, & Institutes

  • Africana Studies (AFS) Department
    The Africana Studies Department offers students the opportunity to study the historical, literary, and contemporary realities of the African world experience. In addition to its curricular offerings, the Department provides students with wide range of academic and cultural programs and activities designed to enhance their learning experiences.

  • African Grove Black Theatre Program
    New African Grove Black Theatre Program (BTP), is committed to staging works by new and established African-American dramatists, that illuminate the African-American experience for people of all ages and ethic groups. In addition to staging plays, the BTP also offers special topics courses, guest artist workshops, educational tours, and community outreach throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

  • Mervyn M. Dymally Institute
    The purpose of Institute is to study the history of African American elected officials, business, and community leaders. The Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute (MDAAPEI) will work to build institutional memory through oral history projects, and to study and debate the effects of public policy on African Americans and the communities in which they live.

  • Sisters United
    Sisters United empowers Black women-identified students to become leaders in their communities. This program is designed to educate students on the history of Black women in politics, community development, advocacy, economic development, and influence health and wellness outcomes. Sisters United connects students with CSUDH Mentors to build positive relationships that last throughout the years and foster academic success and personal growth. This program is open to all CSUDH students, regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex.

Black Campus-Wide Events

  • Super Saturday
    The purpose of Super Saturday: African-American College & Career Summit is to increase college access, enrollment and preparedness for African-American students.

  • Super Sunday
    Super Sunday serves to further develops the critical partnership between the CSU and African American churches throughout the state to encourage Black youth to pursue higher education.

  • Black Graduation
    The Frederick Douglass and Mary McLeod Bethune Graduation Celebration is an African-centered celebration that acknowledges the scholastic achievements of Black students.
